Sydney
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Angela Joyce (Thompson) Maxner. On Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the age of 77 years, Joyce passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. If you were lucky to have spent time with her, you know what a fun-loving person she was. She will be forever missed.
Joyce was born on March 2, 1945, to the late William Roland and Elizabeth Agnes (Muise) Thompson.
Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Lynn (John Casey), Hammonds Plains, Carla (Donnie Joyce), Sydney, and Nadine (Jeff Hunt), Hammonds Plains; six grandchildren; sisters, Dell MacCormack (Jim), Sydney, and Ronalda Centa, Dominion; brother, Roland Thompson, Regina; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Victor Maxner; daughter, Baby Maxner; brothers-in-laws, Bruno Centa, Berwick, Bernard and Gerard Maxner, Clayton Hiscock and nephews, Robert Maxner and Arthur Douglas Maxner.
Joyce was a phenomenal “Nanny” to her loving grandchildren, Jonathan and Keigan Casey, Noah and Emily Joyce, and Oliver and Elijah Hunt. She loved showering her grandkids with her homemade baked goods. Nanny rarely missed an opportunity to watch, cheer, and support them in all of their sports and activities. Her immense love of her grandkids and time together led to countless hours of laughter and fun playing games of all kinds. Their memories and love for Nanny are immeasurable and will live in their hearts forever.
During her work life, Joyce began her career at Charlotte Street RBC as a bank teller. She took a leave for many years to raise her three daughters. Upon her return to the workforce, Joyce was employed at the Metropolitan in retail before returning to assume a teller position at Ashby BMO which culminated in her retirement. She then had the freedom to work part-time at the Dollarama (Welton Street) and eventually care for her grandchildren. Joyce had nothing but fond memories of the people she worked with, making many friends along the way.
Joyce was a loving, fun, energetic, giving, and loyal person. She possessed great strength and fortitude throughout her life. She will be forever remembered for her love of fun usually in the form of a dancing session or singing of favourite songs with family and friends. Our memories with her will be cherished always.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Unit 4C, Harbour View Hospital, Northside Hospital 4 East, the Cove Skylight Unit, and the An Cala Palliative Care Unit for their compassion and exceptional care given to our mom over the past year.
