William Loren Billy Murphy 2022

William Loren “Billy” Murphy
July 30, 1933 – August
20, 2021
Bill Murphy, aged 88,
passed away in the Valley Regional Hospital on August 20, 2021. He was
predeceased by his loving wife, Rena (McGrath), his parents, Loren and
Anna Murphy, as well as younger, brother Allan.
Born in Wedgeport, NS,
he spent most of his working life in Halifax in the construction
industry as a supervisor for companies including Kenny, Kaizer, Boyd
and Garland and Dineen Construction and was involved most notably for
working in the far north on the Distant Early Warning Line and on the
fixed link crossing to Prince Edward Island. He was also a member of
the Lions Club for nearly 60 years.
His retirement years
were spent in Ross Creek where he had many friends and neighbours. The
help and care they provided him was very much
appreciated.
He is survived by his
children, Lorelei (Iceland and Wedgeport) and Brian (Michele),
Halifax; as well as his sisters, Margaret (Atkinson), Marilyn
(Wallace), Claire, and Stella (Anthony); brothers, Edward, Tom,
George, Milton, and Roland.
His greatest joys were
his granddaughters, Molly and Anna Murphy. He was always so proud of
their accomplishments and athleticism. He never tired of hearing or
talking about Molly’s admission to Mount Saint Vincent and her figure
skating and Anna’s excellence at Halifax West High School, her
artistic ability and soccer skills.
“Uncle
Billy” will be sadly missed by the many nieces and nephews who
also brought him tremendous happiness, as well as his countless
cousins, friends, colleagues, and neighbours.
He was not a man to
stop working long enough to have hobbies, but his love of people was
remarkable. He never forgot a face, could find a connection with a
total stranger in less than a minute and nothing pleased him more than
a good chat and a story. A trip to Wedgeport was not complete without
a coffee at the Tuna Wharf.
His body will be
cremated and put to rest beside his devoted wife. His spirit and soul
will be celebrated, at his request, with a graveside service to be
held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 in the Woodlawn Cemetery,
Annapolis Royal.
The family would like
to thank all of his neighbours in Ross Creek, especially Dave and
Diane Carey and Tim and Sarah Holt, for all the care, love and support
they gave Bill over the last few years. Also, the family want to thank
the staff at Evergreen Home for Special Care for doing a wonderful job
in helping Bill settle into his new home.
Bill always wanted to
help those who were disadvantaged in life and those who were sick.
Memorial donations can be made to any charity of
choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White
