Please join us, Rick Hayes and Susy Jara, in celebrating the life of our daughter Sofia Juliana Hayes. Sofia passed away at the age of 8 on July 23rd, 2022. She is survived by two loving siblings: her younger sister Gisèle (Gigi) and older brother Gavin.
Sofia was diagnosed with a rare brain malformation called Lissencephaly four months after birth which was accompanied by an unknown life expectancy. Despite her medical condition, Sofia spread love and joy to all who crossed paths with her, in a way that only she could. Her disability left her unable to speak, walk or properly control her limbs, yet she found a way to communicate: her sweet coos of affection or loving side-eyed glances would melt the coldest of hearts (yet her other signature look, some might say her “daggers”, would immediately convey her disapproval whenever necessary), while her leg kicks would be a clear signal that she was either enjoying the music or wanted the pace of her walk to pick up quickly. Sofia cast a spell on all of us as evidenced by her baby sister basically learning to climb in order to get up her wheelchair to give her kisses, her brother being unable to walk past her without giving her a squeeze, while her parents basically argued over who got to snuggle her in their arms next. She has left a deep void in our lives, but her time had come and she passed as it had long been planned, while peacefully holding the hands of her parents.
We wish to celebrate her life by reflecting on all of the wonderful moments she brought into our lives.
