Robert Charles Balch 1942 2022

Obituary of Robert Charles Balch
It is with absolute broken hearts that we announce the passing of ROBERT CHARLES BALCH after a short but mighty battle with cancer on July 18, 2022.
Born January 6, 1942 to Archibald Charles and Charlotte Elizabeth Balch (nee Fretz), he grew up in the town of Fort Erie, Ontario with his little sister Sharon Thompson (nee Balch, Bruce Thompson).
Robert met the love of his life and soulmate Judith Edna Balch (nee Ward) and they were married for over 63 years and together they lived a wonderful life. They built a very close knit family with their daughters Julie Williamson (nee Balch) and Jennifer Balch, choosing to live close to one another where they were able to spend many special moments together. Robert could not have been more proud of his son-in-laws Ian Williamson and Darrell Pond and he would have been the first to brag about his two wonderful granddaughters Jessica and Jaidyn Pond who made him very proud with each new accomplishment. With his outgoing, witty but gentle personality, Robert left his mark on many people throughout his life and will be remembered and greatly missed by many family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues.
After his family, Robert’s true pride was his love of policing and serving the members of his community. Robert selflessly served as a police officer for over 40 years; ten years with the Ontario Provincial Police and over 30 years with Peel Regional Police. Robert often reflected back on his lengthy career with a quick police story highlighting the wonderful officers he had the honour to work with. He always considered himself privileged for finding a career that he loved and was passionate about for so many years. Robert retired in 2005 as an Inspector with PRP.
In his retirement, Robert fostered his love for animals and nature and spent many hours tending to his lawns, gardens, and pool. He enjoyed nutrition and fitness and continued his love of running right into his 80th year. He had a love for travel, especially cruising, which allowed him to explore his thrill-seeking side, giving him the opportunity to skydive, swim with sharks and sea turtles, and snorkel the reef. He never paused a moment in retirement, enjoying every day to its fullest.
The family would like to give a special and very heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the nurses from Acclaim Health in Oakville who helped make the final days in Robert’s life as comfortable as possible. Their kindness, love, and support meant the world to our family and helped us through some very difficult and confusing times. We will be forever grateful. Cremation has taken place. A private family service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society, Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAShh), or Canadian Wildlife Federation in Roberts honour.
