George Edwin Hutley
January 2, 1930- July16, 2022
George was born to George Hutley and Evelyn (Cooney) Hutley in Trenton Ontario Canada. George committed his life to serving others. As a young man he was part of the cadets and especially enjoyed the drum corps. He was a merchant marine and hauled sugar from Belleville to Montreal for several years. Later, “Junior” as he was often called, worked on the railroad moving rails before shifting to his lifelong work as a welder and eventually retired from Central Bridge company in Trenton. Junior was a Scout growing up and later volunteered in scouting with the 2nd Brighton Scout Troop and the Presqu’ile District while participating with his sons. George married the love of his life, Lois Potter. They enjoyed 61 years of life together and after having children, attended a Rex Humbard crusade and gave his life over to Christ. George enjoyed serving in the local church, serving in Brighton Bible Church and later in Evangel Pentecostal Church. George returned to his musical roots and could be found on Sundays paying percussion during some morning services. He loved working with is hands. His daughter recalls a public school wood working project and her dad assisting her in designing and building a weathervane that stood on their home for over a decade. George applied those wood working skills to among other things bird houses. Many of which stand today. One of his great loves is gardening. Both vegetable and flowers. He could be found volunteering making Christmas baskets in town, serving lunches and make sandwiches. He was always willing to give a smile and kind word to others. George enjoyed helping with odd jobs including tree removal, interior and exterior painting and building small things to fix big problems. He was a whistler and could be heard whistling while he worked. He loved looking at blue irises, getting near the water and wanted to build a canoe or a dory. Eventually he satisfied this love of ships by building model ships for his children. George is predeceased by his brother Ron, his wife Lois and his son Michael. He is survived by his sister Judy, his children, Chris and Gina as well as a quiver full of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In recent years George enjoyed spending time with his brother and sister. He spent time with friends from the church and enjoyed long talks with his son. George always appreciated listening to Scottish bagpipes from time to time.
George, you have loved well. May God bless you as you have blessed us. Thank you for the example of loving your neighbor.
