Obituary
It is with profound sadness and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Harrison Mossip at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto on June 26, 2022, at 93 years of age. Beloved father of Linda (James Leonard) of Toronto and Billy Porter (Patty) of Florida. Predeceased by his loving wife Mae (nee Farrell) (2009), his brothers Jack and Don (Nelda Mossip-Oliver surviving) and his parents, Alberta Mae and Carman Mossip.
Bill was born in Hamilton and grew up in St Marys, Ontario. He graduated from high school at 16 and worked in a bank before becoming paymaster for the 400-person Central Patricia gold mine in Pickle Lake, Ontario. He later enlisted in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment (Airborne) on August 12, 1950 and served in Canada and Korea until August 15, 1953. Once discharged, he joined the Ontario Provincial Police and was transferred to North Bay where he met his wife. He was Chief of the Widdifield Township Police for ten years, transferring to the North Bay Police after annexation and retiring in 1987 as an Inspector. He then enjoyed many winters in Florida with Mae, where he also volunteered at a veteran’s hospital.
The family would like to thank Sunnybrook Veterans Centre K2W for their care and compassion during Bill’s last few days.
Cremation has taken place and a visitation will take place in North Bay from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at McGuinty Funeral Home, with a memorial service at 11AM. There will be a private interment at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Bay. Online condolences can be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
