Norah Frances Allan, age 71, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on July 12, 2022 following a recent diagnosis of cancer. She was surrounded in love by her family. Born in Stratford, Norah was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Pigeon) Mavity.
Norah is survived by her husband, Bill Allan. Loving mother of Angela Schuster (Paul), James Bannon (Meghan), Sarah Smale (Jeff), Erin Bannon, and Stepdaughter, Monica Enderlin. Norah will be dearly missed by her loving grandchildren Clara, Teresa and Ronin Schuster; Allison, Jack and Lucas Bannon; Hudson and Madelyn Smale; Kinan Elias Bannon, and Drake Enderlin. Norah was a cherished sister of Jane Gladding, Robert Mavity (Susan), and Kelly Mavity (Karen). Also survived by sister-in-law Laurie Brown, Janet Forsyth (George), brother-in-law Eugene Allan, many nieces and nephews, goddaughter Karen Tigani, and chosen family, Shannon and Mia Kelly.
Norah was predeceased by her brother John Mavity and brother-in-law Ronald Gladding.
Norah worked for many years at National Trust and later Scotiabank. After leaving the bank, she returned to school, and found her passion serving children with love and care as an Educational Assistant with the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford.
True to her loving, kindhearted spirit, Norah spent her life serving others. While firm in her values and beliefs, Norah could gracefully balance unique situations with honest insight and empathy. Norah will be fondly remembered for the fellowship and support she offered to people in 12 step programs over the last 31 years.
Norah was a selfless person, always generous with her time and talent in the service of others. She was very talented and creative, known for her crafts, gardens, crocheting, sewing, and more. Norah had an infectious laugh and an incredible sense of humour. She was always able to see the lighter side of things, even amid challenges. One of Norah’s greatest gifts to her children, family and friends was her 31 years of sobriety. She modelled incredible courage and dedication, demonstrating that love and commitment are both priceless and everlasting.
Visitation will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Friday, July 15, from 5-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford, on Saturday, July 16, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Avondale Cemetery.
