Elizabeth Jean ‘Betty’ Meier, a long-time resident of Mayerthorpe, Alberta, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 10, 2022, at the age of 77 years. Betty was born on July 2, 1945 in Hanna, Alberta.
Betty was known for her kindness, outspoken and meticulous nature, as well as her love of family and friends. In the early years she could often be found whipping up dinner for a house full, be it family, friends or workers. She took great pride in her surroundings and forever supported those nearest and dearest to her. Her love of camping and people kept her on the move. She loved jewels, beer, fancy things and expensive cars. Her joyful spirit and zest for life will be sorrowly missed.
Betty was predeceased by her sister Velma Walker (1935), brother Leonard Walker (1979), father Frederick Walker (1985), brother John Walker (1989), mother Margaret Walker (1990), brother Jim Walker (2002), sister Elsie Grover (2008), daughter Marilyn Pue (2011), sister Hazel Duncan (2016) and brother Gordon ‘Tick’ Walker (2022).
Betty is survived by her husband of 46 years, Herb Meier, daughters Laura Davey and Janice Okrainetz (Dale), sons David Meier (Wendy) and Kevin Meier (Hope), grandchildren Brande, Jaime, Tyson (Keanna), Morgan, Brooklyn, Tiara (Declan), Hannah, Jamie, Brandon, Mikayla, Andrew, Samantha, Zoey and Karlie, as well as her sisters in laws Elsie, Annetta, Sena and Ellen.
A celebration of life will be held on July 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitecourt Golf & Country Club with Nonie Ouellet officiating. Visitation will take place at the Affinity Funeral Service Chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with interment to follow at the Whitecourt Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Immediately following the service, all are invited to remain with the family for a luncheon and fellowship as we share stories, remember and reflect upon Betty’s life.
As per the families request in honour of Betty’s life, donations may be made to Betty’s dear friend Dixie Rutt also known as “Sweet Pea” to help with her rehabilitation. Donations may be made in care of Janice Okrainetz, Box 3705, Mayerthorpe, Alberta, T0E 1N0.
The outpouring of love and support in this difficult time has not gone unnoticed. From the bottom of our hearts, we extend gratitude to each and every one of you.
