MacDONALD,
Catherine (Blackie) of Brantford, Ontario, formerly Inverness, Scotland, was called home in her 89th year on July 11, 2022, to be reunited with her true love. Catherine (Rena to some) passed peacefully in her sleep at the Brantford General Hospital. Catherine was born October 18, 1933, in Inverness, Scotland, one of eleven children of James and Johanna (Farquhar) Blackie. She was married to Evan MacDonald on January 4, 1956, and immigrated to Brantford, Ontario, Canada, shortly after to start a new life and family. Catherine raised a family and lived in Brantford for many years before retiring to Bayfield, where she and Evan spent many happy years together. Following Evan’s death in 2007, she remained in Bayfield and returned to Brantford six years ago to be closer to her family. Catherine was a deeply devoted wife to Evan for 51 years and a loving mother to her eldest son James, son Scott and his wife Donna (Spehar), her daughter Kim and her husband, Robert Vel. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Shawn, Sheri, Jay, Michalina, Andrew, Hannah, Michael and Aidan, and her great-grandchildren, Haila-Rose, Evan, Masi, Izy, Erica, Harmony, Aurora, Catherine, Ella, and Killian. Catherine loved life, travelling, dancing, listening to great music, watching the birds out her window, and the colour purple. Catherine was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her friends and family and was happiest when surrounded by her clan. We shall miss the joy she brought to all our lives.
In keeping with her wishes, Catherine’s cremation occurred following a private family visitation on July 12, 2022. The family plans to celebrate her life in Brantford on September 11, 2022. In place of flowers, the family asks those wishing to honour her to make a memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, which played significantly in the life of Catherine and her husband, Evan. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McCleister Funeral Home, 495 Park Road N. Brantford. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.mccleisterfuneralhome.ca
