Dr Kingsley King William Mahon July 6th 1935 July 10th 2022

It is with deep sadness we note that at Bluewater Health, Sarnia, Ontario, our beloved Kingsley passed away. He is mourned by his cherished wife Madeline (Guthrie) and predeceased by his proud parents Joseph and Anna Mahon.
Kingsley will be lovingly remembered by his 6 children: Alison, Kingsley (Michelle Dani), Polly Ann Couture (David), Josephine Mahon-Hodgins (Tom), Jim (Donna) and Patrick, and 5 grandchildren he adored Jayme (Jessica), Joel, (Paulina Bond), Lauren, Kingsley, and Madeline, and 4 joyful great grandchildren Emery, Maeve, Audrey and Sawyer.
Kingsley was fortunate to be raised in a large, loving family. He is predeceased by 6 of his siblings (Marie, Evelyn, John, Patrick, Elizabeth, Catherine, Frank), and a surviving sister, Wanda.
He is also remembered by his many loving brothers and sisters in law, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dad was passionate in all endeavours. At Perth high school he was awarded the John Hogg Memorial Award for all round achievement, in the form of a ring which was never off his finger. He competed in many sports: football, hockey, boxing, softball, track and field, and coached basketball. While earning his degree in Medicine at Queen’s University, he was awarded his letter for sports and received Queen’s highest award with admission to the Tricolor Society for his leadership in extra-curricular activities including serving as class President. While attending Queen’s, Kingsley also worked as a guard at Fort Henry and started a family. He also completed his specialty training in Diagnostic Radiology at Queen’s University.
Dad has helped and shown kindness to many while working at Sarnia General Hospital and Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital, which became Bluewater Health, for 35 years. As Medical Director of Imaging he was instrumental in bringing CT scan and MRI technology, Ultrasound of the prostate, and 2D echocardiography to Sarnia to improve diagnostic capabilities and also the breast screening program for early detection of breast cancer. A brilliant and caring physician he served as a hospital Board member and on committees to improve health care, including the Lambton District Health Council, the Ontario Hospital Association Board of Directors, and as medical advisor to Fanshawe Community College’s Radiological Medical Technician program….
As a teenager, he was drafted and signed to the Boston Bruins by Harold Cotton, however Dad developed tuberculosis and spent two years in the Kingston sanitarium, which changed Dad’s career path. While in the sanitarium, Kingsley learned how to become an x-ray technician and was inspired to become a physician. Kingsley was first a Medical Captain in the Army for 3 years where he was trained for deployment to Cyprus. He then worked as a family physician and at the Rideau Regional Hospital in Smith Falls and Ontario Hospital, Kingston before accepting an offer to practice radiology in Sarnia.
Kingsley was an accomplished athlete from hockey plays with his brothers Patrick and Johnny, being honoured with an induction into the Perth Blue Wings Hockey Hall of Fame, starting softball teams for the patients at Ontario Hospital, Kingston, traveling with his son Patrick as he played in the CFL, and enjoying the golf links and curling rinks with his friends. Kingsley has enjoyed his friendly camaraderie with Drs. Rauf Khan, Bob Borek, John Scholz, and John Scarrow. He was also a proud member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club. Kingsley enjoyed catching up with his extended family while summering at the cottage on the Mississippi Lake which he loved and enjoyed with his family for almost 60 years.
In his community, Dad also served on the Our Lady of Mercy Parish Council, a Neighbourhood Improvement Program Committee, and the Sarnia Lambton Task Force to recruit family physicians to Sarnia-Lambton. He lived with his family in the heritage district of Sarnia for over fifty years and has known many wonderful neighbours and friends over the years.
Thank you to the kind and caring physicians and staff in the Med-Telemetry and Palliative Care units at Bluewater Health. A special thank you to Drs. Pandu Shetty and Robert Borek.
