Cooke, James Leonard Eric
Sadly, on Saturday December 25 2021, James Leonard Eric Cooke (Cookie), passed away after a short illness. Jim was an amazing man who will be greatly missed by family and friends. Throughout his life Jim had a passion for baseball, hockey and golf, making many friends along the way.
Jim coached and played in numerous sports leagues, inspiring many people over the years. Jim coached the ladies softball league in Port Perry “SCUGOG ANGELS”. They won the Canadian women’s gold medal two years in a row. Cookie took his Pickering ‘AA’ Midget hockey team to Sweden. Jim was honoured to be invited to Germany to play hockey with NHL players.
Cookie worked very hard every year arranging his annual Myrtle Beach Golf Trip. The first trip was in 1991 with approximately 20 golfers. For the next 30 years the guys enjoyed the love of friends and the game of golf. The last trip included over 60 golfers. Every one of these guys appreciated his efforts and looked forward to the following year.
Jim had a real zest for life, his jokes and stories entertained everyone. He loved the outdoors, had a tireless work ethic, and true love of family. Jim was employed by the City of Toronto and Dominion Stores until he retired and moved to Marlwood Golf and Country Club, Wasaga Beach. He quickly fell in love with his new community.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife Karen and their four children, Sherry (Hugh) Ibanaz, James (Michelle) Cooke, Frederick (Lenelle) Flanagan, Cherie (Thomas) Carter. Papa/Grandpa will be sadly missed by his twelve grandchildren, Brady, Daniel, Bryanna, Cassidy, Jaxon, Sam, Megan, Emily, Dylan, Myles, Benjamin, Josiah, two great granddaughters, Selina and Charlotte and his great grandson T.J.. Already with our Lord, grandsons Noah and Tyler.
