It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Stu Nicol on Saturday July 2, 2022 after a short illness with congestive heart failure.
Born to Jim and Rose Nicol on April 21, 1932, Stu recently celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family.
Stu was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister Gay Doyle. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jo; daughter Jan (Denis) and son Gary (Sandi); grandchildren Rhys (Britt) and great-grandson Cayleb, Kylie (David), Skylar (Christina), Rylan (Katrina); and step-grandchildren Samantha (Nathan), Aiden, Maylee, Paislee, and Brenden (Kayla), Payten, Colten. Also survived by his sister Fay (Leon) Stocki of Grassland, AB and multiple nieces and nephews.
Stu worked at a lot of different things. He started working in Churchill alongside his uncle and then at CN Rail before opening Glasgow Automotive Services on Glasgow Avenue. He eventually added Riverview Plating. After a fire in 2001, the business moved to McMillan Avenue and changed its name to Glasgow Collision Centre.
Throughout the years, he owned or partnered in a variety of businesses including gas stations, taxi cabs, a hotel, and an Italian restaurant. He also contributed greatly to the South Osborne Biz, helping and advising small business owners in the neighborhood. He was an active member of the Automotive Trades Association, the Fort Rouge Curling Club, and the Fort Rouge Legion. He was also a Mason (Millennium Lodge No. 182). He was very proud to volunteer as a driver for the Mason’s Cancer Vans for over 10 years
Stu, along with his wife, travelled to many different countries around the world, but their favourite was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He spent many winters walking the beach, trying to keep up to Jo.
In his free time, Stu could be found golfing, curling, and walking through St. Vital Park. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and curling on TV, as well as Jeopardy!
Stu was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at the start of 2022 and Jo suffered a stroke in 2016 so in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
A private family service will be held.
