Obituary
On June 23, 2022, Marilyn Saville (née Crawford) passed away peacefully at age 85 in Lacombe, Alta. Born in Duncan, B.C., on November 24, 1936, to William and Jean Crawford, both of Scottish descent, Marilyn grew up in Mesachie Lake on Vancouver Island with three brothers (Jimmy, David, and Bob) and one sister (Margaret). Marilyn enjoyed dancing, taking lessons and attending local dances whenever she had the chance, which is where she would meet the love of her life at 17, Frank Saville. Shortly after meeting, Frank would ask for her hand in marriage and they married in Mesachie Lake on October 16, 1954. They lived in Duncan and Nanoose Bay until the first of their four children, Bill, was born in 1955 and Sandy followed shortly after in 1956. Life was busy, with eight years and a move to Chilliwack before Jacquie was born in 1964 and Frankie in 1965.
Marilyn was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and a friend to many, but she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty and she was Frank’s partner. They ran three businesses and worked on farms across B.C. and Alberta including butcher shops in Innisfail, Ponoka and Red Deer, and dairy and cattle farms west of Eckville and in Delta before finally retiring in Alhambra in 1995.
Marilyn, or Marly as some of her nearest and dearest called her, was veracious and full of life and laughter. She had the gift of the gab. At any given moment over a cup of tea or a lengthy phone call, she kept friends and family near and far abreast of family news and happenings. If something was happening, she knew about it, and she’d tell you exactly what she thought. Marilyn loved people, and they loved her, whether it was the makeup lady at Shopper’s Drug Mart, one of her 14 grandchildren, a neighbour, or a random passerby, Marilyn knew how to connect with people and make a lasting impression. She loved spending time with her family, singing and playing music, and socializing. She made a point to know all of her neighbours, as she said, “good neighbours are good friends.”
After Frank passed in 2014, Marilyn moved to the Manor House in Eckville where she made new friends, reconnected with old friends, and kept busy as a social butterfly (and fierce competitor) attending all the events and activities they had to offer.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Frank Greaves Saville, daughter Michelle, her parents and four siblings. Left with fond memories and lots of love are Marilyn’s four children William (Bill) Saville (Roseanne Kelly), Sandy Reinders (John), Jacquie Ramstead (Shane) and Frank (Frankie) Saville (Kathy), 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
