Shirley Barbara
Atkinson – 66, Truro,
passed away after a sudden illness on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, with her
husband, Clayton at her side, at Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born
in Shannonville, Ontario, she was a daughter of the late Hilda
Corey.
Shirley worked for 35 years as a Family Service Worker with
Children’s Aid Society and served on the board of Colchester
Early Learning Centre for nearly 30 years. She was a member of Valley
– Greenfield United Church. She and Clayton enjoyed camping
at Seafoam Campground where she loved walking the beach collecting sea
glass and “swimming with the old ladies”.
Shirley had various interests and was very crafty and
ingenious, making some memorable treasures for her grandchildren. She
delighted in interior decorating and was always sprucing things up
with a fresh look. She excelled in cooking and loved Sunday suppers
with her family. Her family meant the absolute world to her and she
loved each one of them with all of her heart.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 35 years, Clayton;
children, Charlotte (Greg) Sullivan, Harmony; Michael Stratton, Truro;
Darah Atkinson (Kevin Swan), Ottawa; Janet (Julien) Marcadier,
Calgary; Robert Atkinson, Mississauga, Ontario; Richard (Christina)
Atkinson, Mississauga, Ontario; Kathleen (Scott) Wilson, Truro; nine
grandchildren; several sisters, brothers, nieces and
nephews.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a
later date at Seafoam Campground. If so desired, donations in
Shirley’s memory to Christmas Index Program are
welcomed.
