Douglas Riley
June 8, 2022
It is with great sadness that Michael Riley announces the death of his father Douglas Riley. Native from St-John, New Brunswick, he passed away on June 8, 2022 at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax at 90 years old.
Douglas was a physical education teacher at Three Rivers high school in the 1950’s and went on to serve for 25 years as a professor of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education at McGill University and as Chairman of the department.
Passionate and avid sailor, he retired to Nova Scotia and would not give up his wooden sailboat, the Silooet, until he was sure he could no longer sail it all summer long with his wife, with whom he lived in Charlottetown for years after.
Douglas is survived by his wife Sylvia Johnson (her children Grant, Keith and Caroline and their family), his son Michael (his wife Karina and children Liliane and Lucas), his grandson Vaughn Riley, and his daughter Megan Halle.
Close family will hold an intimate celebration of life in the next few weeks. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Douglas Riley June 8 2022..
