G. Alice Herbert (February 11, 1927 – July 2, 2022)
Dear Mom,
Thank you for being our dear mother for so long. We had you for 95 years! And in that time you accomplished so much and played so many roles. You were a loving daughter (Gordon & Blanche Donaghy) and sister (Douglas & Lona), a devoted wife (George Herbert), an inspirational mother (Ellen, Anne & Mary), and compassionate grandmother and great grandmother. You were also our teacher, guide and counselor – not to mention serving as the language police! We all know now that there is a different pronunciation for ”w“ versus ”wh”. And when to use ”I“ versus ”me”. Still not sure about the ”whom” versus “who” though!
With admiration we watched you return to school to become a high school teacher (St. Mary’s & Central) when we were all finally school age. You taught so many students, many of whom stayed in touch as you played a pivotal role in their development too. After your teaching career you travelled with Dad for many years, both as a traveller and as a guide – still in teaching mode. You went to many places you had always dreamed of and shared so many tales and photographs. How may travelogues did you and Dad produce so you could share your experiences with others?
And you were blessed to not only have witnessed and adored six wonderful grandchildren (Thomas, Patrick, Sarah, Matthew, Drew & Taylor) but also got to hold and love three great-grandchildren (Lauren, Liam & Jake). The banana muffins, waffles and syrup, pot lid marching bands and bingo – clickety click! They are lucky to have known you Mom.
We will love you forever, and you will be deeply missed.

There will be a private memorial service held at a later date.
