Obituary
Mike Badiuk of the Canora Gateway Lodge and formerly of the Buchanan District, SK, passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on June 29, 2022, at the age of 94 years.
Mike was born May 30, 1928, to Fred and Irene Badiuk at the family farm southwest of Buchanan, SK, and was the second oldest of nine children. As a young man, he attended the Mamornitz School and church. The Badiuk family have great faith and belief in God through the Ukrainian Orthodox church. Irene Badiuk would say her daily prayers on her knees both in the morning and before bed and instilled that belief and faith in her children.
Mike’s father, Fred, passed away suddenly in 1959. Mike went to Prince Rupert, BC, to work for a while, but then came home, put the lunch pail on the table, and said “that’s it.” He then took over the family farm. Mike and his mother, Irene, lived on the family farm for many years and family would gather there for many happy times. Later in his life, Mike met the love of his life, Doreen Stevens. They moved to Buchanan and enjoyed life until Doreen became ill with Alzheimer’s and sadly passed away. Mike continued to live in Buchanan and always enjoyed visiting with friends and family.
Mike loved socializing with people. He was a board member of the Buchanan Housing Authority for over 20 years. He enjoyed going for coffee and helping his brother-in-law, John, at Buchanan Motor Machine and Welding. He would meet friends there to discuss anything and everything.
Recently, he also enjoyed going for coffee to the JC Cafe in Buchanan. Mike also enjoyed fishing and curling and playing pool. His devotion to the church showed as he was always willing to help out and cut the grass at Mamornitz until a couple of years ago. He loved to have a big garden and always shared it with family.
He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all.
Mike was predeceased by his partner, Doreen Stevens; parents: Fred and Irene Badiuk; brothers: Nick, David, Peter, and Johnny in infancy; sister, Doris Teslia; sisters-in-law: Helen Badduke, Kay Badiuk, Beverley Badiuk, Maria Badiuk, Sophie Badiuk, and Georgette Badduke and brothers-in-law, Walter Swystun and John Teslia; and nephew, Darrell Teslia and great nephew, Trevor Teslia. Mike is survived by his siblings: George, John, and Joe Badiuk and Mary Swystun; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr.
