CURRELL, Philip Wallace
1946 – 2022
Phil passed away suddenly after a brief illness in Peterborough Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Dianne of 34 years, and his three sons Sean (Tammy), Steve (Olivia) and Evan (Caren). He will be sadly missed by his many grandchildren Hope, Alex, Brandon, Shawn, Stephanie, Scott, Danica, Lorelai, Chelsea, Ethan, Caden, Caitlyn, and his great granddaughter Jane.
Phil was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his time throughout his entire life fishing and hunting. He could be found many mornings in his bass boat out on Rice Lake, most often bringing home a fresh pickerel for dinner. He loved a good tournament and participated in many over the years, especially during the time spent at Shady Acres in Keene, until retiring to Bailieboro.
Phil’s career with Scarborough Fire Department started in 1971 and he officially retired in 2004 as a District Chief with Toronto Fire after amalgamation. He felt he was the luckiest man in the world for having loved his job so much. He enjoyed showing up for his shift to be with the ‘guys’ and developed many great friendships throughout his time with SFD.
He will be remembered often and fondly by those whose lives he touched, both here in Ontario and in Buttonwood Bay in Florida where he and Dianne spent their past many winters. He was a true friend to many. His sudden passing has left us shocked and saddened, but relieved that he did not endure a lengthy suffering due to pancreatic cancer. He left this world with a full heart and grateful for his family, friends, and his many blessings in life.
An informal gathering for remembrances and luncheon will be held at Centreville Church hall at 574 County Road 28, South Monaghan, on Friday, July 8, from 1 – 4 p.m. A family graveside service will take place at Rosemount later in the summer.
