Shirley Jean Sutherland 2022

We mourn the passing of Shirley Jean Sutherland. Shirley was born October 8th, 1929, in Stettler, Alberta, to Maude and Edward Knechtal. She often talked of growing up on the farm with her parents and 6 siblings. Mom was the last of her generation and missed her parents, brothers, and sisters greatly.
After studying nursing, she found herself in Drumheller, where she met her husband, Bruce. They married in 1953 and were married to for almost 60 years. Due to Bruce’s career in the RCMP, they moved often, creating a group of lifelong friends in many communities throughout Alberta.
Shirley was predeceased, in addition to her parents and siblings, by her husband, Bruce, and her son, Ken. She is survived by her sons, Scott (Jocelyn), Brian (Laurette), Craig (Teresa), and Doug (Rhonda); as well as 14 grandchildren.
Mom’s focus in life was always family. She looked forward to all events with “her boys”, with great anticipation. There were many people in her extended family, her nieces and nephews, the Sutherland clan, and stepchildren who were always in her heart.
Mom will be missed for her sense of humor and slightly mischievous streak. She will be remembered fondly for her smile and for her dedication to family.
Due to Covid we are having a Private Service for Mom. We ask in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Canada, alzheimer.ca/en/take-action/donate.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Shirley Jean Sutherland 2022..

  1. I was so sorry to hear of Aunt Shirley’s passing. She was so wonderful and caring.
As a young child, I always looked forward to visiting her and her boys!
I was able to visit her at the nursing home a few years ago and although she still
displayed her lovely engaging smile, she was obviously not herself. I will miss her
    as we all will!
