Jean Louise Moore February 15 1931 June 6 2022

In loving memory of Dr. Jean L. Moore who passed away on June 6 at home with her family. She leaves behind her daughter, Sharon (Brian) Costello, her grandchildren, Kelsey (Derek) DiMartile, Eric, Trevor, and Laura Costello, many cousins, friends and colleagues. We are grieving the passing of an extraordinary individual, a beloved Mother, Grandmother, educator and a gifted public policy strategist. A women who dedicated her life to serving the needs of the most vulnerable in our society, our children and those suffering with respect to mental health and addiction. She was born February 15, 1931 in High River, Alberta. She grew up in a small farm house with her parents and sister. She loved to tell us how she rode her horse everyday to her one room schoolhouse. She married Charles Moore on Aug 26, 1950 and had two children, Ronald & Sharon. She attended the University of Calgary, The University of Alberta and culminated at Brigham Young University where she received her doctorate in education. She was a lifelong learner, always taking courses and going to summer school. Her career in education began in the 1950’s where she taught in a one room school and eventually a position with the Alberta Ministry Of Education. In 1984, she moved to BC and became the Director, Student Services for the Vancouver School Board. She became well known and highly respected for her innovative work and leadership in BC and Canada. She began her volunteering in 1956 on the Drayton Valley library board and continued for most of her life. She was a tireless child advocate. She was very active in the Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta, BC and nationally, First Call, BC Alliance, Theatre Terrific and Community Legal Assistance Society. She had a passion to build a better world “to plant the seeds of the trees she would never sit under”. Her name is associated with integrity, service to others, compassion, courage and kindness and a willingness to help any in need. She lived her life to the fullest. She loved hot air balloons and was enthusiastically working towards her pilots license before moving to BC. She enjoyed skiing with her children and loved white water rafting. She travelled the world never afraid to explore somewhere new, whether alone, with friends, through work or with family. In the words of a dear lifelong friend “ She was not only a great friend, she was a great citizen and she never sat on her hands” All we can say is, what a lady, what a life! A celebration of her life will be held on July 22, 1 to 4 PM at Point Grey Golf Course, 3350 Marine Drive, Vancouver. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “the Jean Moore Endowment Fund in Child & Youth Mental Health” through CMHA’s Impact Funds www.cmha.bc.ca/jean-moore
