Obituary
Surrounded by love and the presence of her family, Darlene Faye LaFoy, late of Weyburn, SK, passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at the age of 82 years.
Darlene was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Aurilla Skjonsby; her father and mother-in-law, George and Edna LaFoy; brother Merlin Skjonsby; sisters-in-law: Doreen Vaughn, Dawn LaFoy, Marion Skjonsby brothers-in-law: Jack Vaughn, Dennis LaFoy and Marvin Larsen.
Leaving to mourn her loss is her husband Dalton LaFoy; her children: Wanda (Dave) Edwards and family: Jason (Nicole) and family [Elisabeth and Emily Nyhus, Ella Edwards], Sarah (Calvin) Goebel and their daughter [Charlie], Chelsey Edwards (Mike Jean-louis); Kathy (Warren) Vancuren and family: Brennan Vancuren (Carla Smith), Kaiden Vancuren (Lauren Fishley); Jerry (Teresa) LaFoy and family Conor LaFoy and Madison LaFoy; her siblings: Mabel Larsen, Wilf (Mariann)Skjonsby, Darrell (Vicky) Skjonsby; sister-in-law Ann Skjonsby; brother-in-law Darrell (Deborah) LaFoy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Born on April 15, 1940, Darlene spent her early childhood years growing up in and around Ratcliffe, SK, moving with her family in 1953 to Weyburn, SK. While attending school in Weyburn, Darlene met the love of her life, Dalton LaFoy. They married on September 6, 1958, a legacy of love and marriage for almost 64 years. After they married, Dalton’s work took them to Lake Alma, SK where they enjoyed 12 fun filled years, and were blessed with 3 children. In 1969 they moved back to Weyburn, where they became lifetime residents.
She treasured her family, taking pride in all their activities and accomplishments. She was the family’s greatest cheerleader, seldom missing an event of her children or grandchildren. Family gatherings were a highlight for all of us, embracing her contagious laughter. Fondly remembered for her famous baked goods, especially her buns and chocolate chip cookies.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK with Marj McLeod officiating. Pallbearers will be: Jason Edwards, Sarah Goebel, Chelsey Edwards, Brennan Vancuren, Kaiden Vancuran, Conor LaFoy and Madison LaFoy. Honorary Pallbearers are all in attendance. Interment will be held Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, SK with luncheon to follow at Captain’s Hall, 122 4th Street NE, Weyburn, SK.
The family wish to thank the exceptional nurses and staff at the Weyburn General Hospital, for their sensitive and compassionate care.

  1. Our sympathies to Dalt and the Skjonsby family. Always a lot of fun to visit with Darlene. She had a different take on many circumstances that made us laugh – and she had such a wonderful laugh. She was known to us as the ‘lady with the big personality’. She will be missed by all who knew her. Lynn (Jim) O’Neill and Lowell Skjonsby
