Campbell, Mary ‘Ruth’
Ruth Campbell (nee Phipps) passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 3rd, 2022 in her 89th year.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband Donald David Campbell of 65 years.
Cherished mother of Christine (Yvan) Harvey of Wasaga Beach, and David (Jill) Campbell of Toronto. Grandmother of Erin (Justin) Banks & Ben Campbell-Hunt and Rachel & Caleigh Campbell. Great-Grandmother to Blaze Anthony, Vivienne and Victor. Sister of Eleanor Phipps of Toronto.
Ruth was born and raised in Kapuskasing, Ontario with her two younger sisters and many great friends who came to be known as the Kap Kats. She graduated from The University of Toronto where she was a proud Alpha Phi and made many more great, long-time friends. Ruth and Don settled in Etobicoke to raise their family. Ruth worked as a Real Estate Agent with Don for many years before they retired. She enjoyed playing tennis at The Boulevard Club.
Ruth and Don were original members of the Georgian Peaks Ski Club in 1960 and spent many wonderful years at their chalet there before moving up to “The Farm” in Thornbury. They spent their later years there hosting their annual Apple Parties, travelling and playing golf at Georgian Bay Club. Between the “Donkey” at Blue Mountain in the 50’s and the Peaks after that, Ruth and Don helped host over 65 New Year’s Eve parties, and many trout breakfasts with their life-long friends. Ruth volunteered with the Cancer Society and Heart and Stroke for over 30 years and always enjoyed a glass of wine or a martini and meeting new people and the friendships that followed. Ruth was quite a character and she will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
Predeceased by her parents George Willard & Helen Lucas Phipps, and her sister Katherine Lill. Sisters-in-law Elva (Heinz) Schneider, Marjorie (Robert) Crumpton and brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Campbell and his wives Ruth and Doreen. Loved by countless nieces, nephews and dogs.
We would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Ruth received from Dr. Stephen Langford and his staff, and the staff at RVH, Sunnybrook and Collingwood General & Marine Hospitals.
