Richard John McClain
Dec 17th 1952 – Jan 7th 2022
Sadly, Richard passed away at the age of 69 from a stroke. Richard was born in Rimbey, Ab to Vi and Don McClain , when he was 6 his father died as a hero in an accident. He was very proud of his father and he always said his mom was a hero too. He always had a special bond with his mother. Richard had a hard life and he was very lost until at age 24 he met the love of his life, Diane. They met in Calgary and were married for 44 years. Richard and Diane loved each other “to the moon and back”.Richard became a step parent and learned what It was to love. Diane and Richard accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour in 1978 in Sylvan Lake. Jesus forever changed their lives and Richard is with him now.
Richard leaves behind his beloved wife Diane, children Joe (Linda), Tina, Kim ( Pat) and Sydney (Mike). Grandchildren, Cori (Jamie), Ali (Andrew), Becky (Jesse), Frankie (Lea), Ricky (Ashley), Hannah (Nick), Zach (Leslie) and his beloved Great Grandchildren, Catiana, Elisabeth, Jaxon, Lincoln, Leo, Emilia, Thomas and Ethan. We said our children are our blessing, our grandchildren are our bonus and our great grandchildren are the icing on the cake.
Richard also leaves behind siblings, Rod (Vickie), Sharon(Keith), Donnie (Cathy), David (Sherry)and Doug (Rose). In-law siblings, Linda (Greg), Bill (Chris),Judy (Wane), Ron, Joann (Brian) and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his grandparents, Richard and Jo-ann , Violet and Jack. His beloved parents, Vi & Don McClain as well as Donna (Les) , Christopher, Gary, Jim & Wilma Joss, Jim, Kathy, and most recently Auntie Jean.
From Diane: Little did I know that when I met Richard , I was meeting superman. This interesting guy that had such a difficult life was really superman in disguise. He was unique, kind , smart, a deep thinker, fun, adventurous, fiercely loyal, determined, trust worthy, protective, and always a gentleman to me. He valued his family and friends. We will miss him every moment of every day forever. Richard was so proud of his kids, grankids, and great grankids. They all loved his marshmallow parenting style, soft, fluffy and give them whatever they want, always loving and encouraging them. The protection of children and veterans were his passion.
Thanks to Dr. Joe Silvagio for giving us an extra 8 years with Richard, and Dr. Vijay Sodhi for his care and compassion towards Richard in his remaining years.Thank you to his home care contacts, Edward for all your help, Robert ( the sock man) and especially Murray that brightened Richard’s day twice a week. Dickie Dee sends you a wave.
Whenever you are having some ice cream, think of Richard and raise your spoon, he would love that.
GOD SAW HIM GETTING TIRED
God saw him getting tired and a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around him and whispered come with me
With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer and we saw him
Fade away, although we loved him dearly , we could not make him stay
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best
Cremation has taken place, the family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, an endowment fund has been established to an organization close to Richards heart, supporting Veterans Transition Network, called the Richard McClain Memorial Fund
