Millie Singer Kaporovsky
Sept 30, 1935-May 3, 2022
Millie lived with inspiring gratitude for a full and joyful life – fulfilling her dream of living in Israel as an educator, partner, mother, friend, and especially Bubbie. She is deeply missed by her best friend of 70 years and a day Morrie Kaporovsky; her loving children Leonard Mitchell (Lenny) and Debra Shira (Debi Parush), her grandchildren Asaf Zeev Parush and Noa Faran Parush, Hadas Zohar Parush Avital and Dubi Avital, and Shahar Matan Parush; her great-grandchildren Lavie Eitan, Gefen Joy, Amitai Meir, and Shir Matar Parush and Neri Avital; her sisters and brothers-in-law Rona and the late Rabbi Judah Harris Z”L and Marlene and Sheldon Wein, nephews and nieces-in-law the late Mitchell Harris Z”L, Jonah Wein and Hillary Feldman, David and Amanda Pagar Wein, grand nephews; and many dear friends.
Millie was born in Montreal – daughter of Esther Colton and Henry Singer. She loved her extended family – cherishing memories of time spent with her aunties and cousins and being inspired by her own Bubbie and Zaidie Colton. She went to Strathcona high school and graduated McDonald College as a teacher. Millie’s optimistic, warm and fun-loving perspective and “Young at Heart” spirit continue to inspire her children and grandchildren, and everyone who knew her from her nursery and kindergarten pupils in Montreal to her high school students in Israel, many of whom remember her fondly to this day. Millie was an active member of the Jewish community in Montreal through Hadassah-Wizo and later as a pioneer of the Young People’s Division of the Allied Jewish Community Services.
Millie cherished her Jewish roots and fulfilled her childhood dream of making aliya. In Israel she was an active member in the Netanya Conservative Synagogue – Bet Israel and in Hadassah-Wizo.
Millie was an artist and lover of culture – classical and popular, with a special place in her heart for opera and Yiddish folk songs. She loved singing in choirs and at home with family and friends. Her home is filled with loving portraits she painted of family members – both from before her own childhood up until her children and grandchildren. Her paintings tell the story of everyday family life – living the moment. She loved sculpture and pottery, yoga and swimming, and was a caring neighbor and friend to many, with an open door and an open heart. She had an exceptional capacity for empathy and shared her wise insights generously.
The unveiling will be held where Millie was buried in Israel at the Tel Mond cemetery on June 14 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Millie’s memory may be made to your favorite charity, especially one which contributes to children with special needs.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Millie Singer Kaporovsky 2022..
