May 20, 1936 – June 11, 2022
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Albert on June 11, 2022, at the Sault Area Hospital with his loving and devoted wife Jenny of 67 years by his side.
Dear and proud father of Benita (late Martin) and Tom (Sharon). Loving and proud grandfather of Jessi (Mikael), Nelson, and Kayla (Ash). Loving great grandfather of Mason and Logan. Son of the late Bernhard and late Yvonne Nelson. Predeceased by his 8 siblings: Irene, George (late Murdine), Ruth (late Edo), Ben (late Berniece), Rudolph, Oscar (late Marilyn), Arthur and Verena (Dave). Son in law of the late Joe and Frances Rainville. Brother in law of the late Jackie (late Alan), Joe (Kerrie), Marnie (Tod), Dan and Richard. Special uncle to many nieces and nephews. One of whom was 5 years old who would come with his little toolbox to help with home renos. Special great uncle to Keely and Josh who spent many hours in Albert’s workshop learning to be creative.
Albert grew up in Sault Ste. Marie then moved to Hawk Junction to work for the Algoma Central Railway. He was an active community member, participating as a member in the Lions Club, Local Services Board and Local Fire Department. After many years with the railway, he purchased and ran a heating and electric business in Wawa.
In 1983, Albert and Jenny decided to move to Baffin Island where they lived until 1991. Albert worked as a Townsite Maintenance Supervisor and Justice of the Peace. The Inuit called Albert “The Shyientist” because he had a solution to any problems they had. Albert and Jenny then retired and went back to Hawk Junction until 2013 when they moved home to Sault Ste. Marie.
As per Albert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. The family would like to send their sincere thanks to the Doctors and Nurses on 3B and 3C for their care and compassion. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice (payable online or by cheque).
