John’s Obituary
THE LIFE OF JOHN E. DUGGAN
It is with great sadness that the Duggan family announces the death of John Edward Duggan, age 71. He graduated into Heaven at approximately 11 pm on Tuesday, May 31st 2022, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Nova Scotia. By his side were his wife (Raya) and children (Cristen and Kyle).
After graduating with his business degree from St. Mary`s University, Halifax, 1971, John was employed by Sears Canada, first in accounting, then as regional catalogue manager, serving in Amherst, Charlottetown, then back to Halifax. In 1980, his family moved to Toronto, where he served as National Catalogue Manager until 1987 when he resigned to return to Nova Scotia. John`s entrepreneurial adventures included the first Bulk Barn franchise in Nova Scotia which he operated for 7 years, then partnered in a Home Hardware business, and operated Ruffin`s Pet Centre until 2009. Amidst all of that, he was employed with McKesson Canada, as well as MediPlus, then with Lawton`s Wholesale Division of Sobeys until his retirement in November 2021. John joined Rotary Club of Middleton early this year, which he found interesting and challenging.
John lived a fulfilling and energetic life. He was a quiet and tender believer in Jesus, quietly engaging, man of integrity, gentle, funny, always in charge, lending help to anyone in need. He led his family with so much love and intense commitment; he loved in deeds more than in words. John cherished his wife of 48 years (Bop by Dan Seals will always be their song,) loved and cared for his children and grandchildren, and carried on his business life with wisdom. The shock of his death… an aneurysm gives no warning… has left his family to try to comprehend what is incomprehensible.
John is survived by his wife Raya, daughter Cristen and son Kyle (Kara) and 7 grandchildren – Nicholas, Logan, Caleb, Joshua, Kylie, Riley, and Gabriella; also sister Sandra (Shute) and niece Stefanie (daughters Sarah and Allison), and nephew Andrew (wife Susan and sons Adam and Sam). He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Edith Duggan, and brother-in-law, Doug Shute.
The Duggan family will be holding a service at New Hope Wesleyan Church, 7054 Highway 12, Kentville, NS at 2 pm on Saturday, June 25. A reception will follow at the church. Visitation will take place Friday evening, June 24, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm in New Hope Wesleyan Church, Kentville. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation to New Hope Wesleyan Church, Rotary Club of Middleton, Valley Care Pregnancy Centre – Kentville.
For those who knew John well, his description of himself was always “peak physical condition“. Well, now and forevermore in Heaven with our Almighty God, John is completely and truly in “peak physical condition“ in every way!
