Death Notice
HAYMAN, George – On Friday, June 10, 2022, George Oke Hayman, P.Eng, loving father and devoted husband, died in his 92nd year. Adored and loved very much by Helen Louise (Smart) Hayman, his wife of 67 years. Lovingly remembered by his cherished sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren; Peter, Kathryn and Rebecca, Dave, Patty, Paul and Andrew, Brian, Sandra, Julia, fiancé Ryan and Michelle, fiancé Lucas and Ian, Anne- Françoise, Luc, Liam and Elio. Also missed by brother-in-law Martin Ware, sister-in-law Lenore Hayman, and many nieces and nephews and extended family. Predeceased by his brother Bob and wife Anne Hayman, brother Donald Hayman, sister Molly Ware, and sister-in-law Irene and husband Bill Carswell.
George lived a full life. He met Helen during their first week at the University of Toronto and they never looked back. He graduated from Engineering and Business in 1953, and joined the 4th generation family construction firm, John Hayman and Sons. Passionate about music, theatre, the arts, and humanitarian activities, George was a Renaissance man. His love of the piano was sustained throughout his life, and he played on many occasions and at parties, “sometimes even when asked”. Volunteering in the community was also important to him, serving with Mission Services, Boy Scouts, and sharing his talents at the piano with the Cancer Clinic and retirement homes. George served on the University of Toronto Board of Governors, was Past President of the London & District Construction Association and an Honorary Member of Highland Country Club. He was always loyal to St. Paul’s Cathedral. He especially enjoyed happy times with family at the cottage on the Severn River.
“At 91 years old he had a full life,
With Helen they were a model husband and wife,
Healthy living is his secret or so it would seem,
Actually he loved his cookies and ice cream,
At the end he continued to stay strong,
Now at a piano he is playing this song…
“We’ll Meet Again”
Thanks for setting such a good example for us – in integrity, caring, music, curiosity, ethics and humour.
