Peter’s Obituary
With gratitude for a long life well lived, we are saddened to announce the passing of Peter Austin McLeod on Saturday, January 8th 2022, in his 84th year. To be in Peter’s presence, was to feel at ease. One might observe upon first meeting him, that he was unassuming and quiet, and they wouldn’t be wrong, although he also had an understated sense of humour. Peter was goodness to the core and so very gentle and giving, selfless and kind. He gave so much of himself to others. He was an avid reader, excellent conversationalist, loved music and animals, and was a religious and deeply spiritual man. His interests over the years were many, from ‘pet’ geese that terrorized his family and neighbours, to collecting art to the point that you would be hard pressed to find an empty spot on the wall. He was a lifelong learner and valued knowledge and culture, was wise, and gently shared his life observations with his family and friends. He appreciated the simple things like butterscotch candies, a perfectly cooked over easy egg (over very low heat you know) and burning some nice wood, and frankly anything else flammable. So much so, that his kids lovingly nicknamed him “Pyro Pete”. Peter was a retired teacher and had a holistic approach to education and believed in teaching the whole person. He was predeceased by his parents, John Pius & Mary McLeod, his brother John, his sisters Isabel, Helen & Merle, brother-in-law Doug (Pauline), brother-in-law Kenneth (Sharon), son Donald, and his first wife of 41 years Judith. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Maureen, children Carroll-Joseph (Seung-Kyoo), Francine, Andrew, Charles, Tracey (Moe), Lisa, Kate (Darren), and Maureen’s daughter Jodi. Grandchildren, Dreizan, Jalen, Madeline, Jesse, Celeste, Jamie, Billie and Andy. Greatgrandchildren Cole and Landon. Peter is also survived by his long time best friend Tom Webb (Jeanette) and an incredible number of close friends, who cannot be named for fear of missing somebody. Following his wishes, there will not be a service, but well wishers are encouraged to do something kind for somebody else unexpectedly, and without explanation.
