Obituary for Paul Marley
Marley, Douglas “Paul”; It is with heavy hearts, but gratitude for a life well lived, that the family of Paul Marley announce his passing on Wednesday June 8, 2022 at the age of 86.
Paul is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 65 years, Lois (nee Gray); proud and loving father of his three children and their spouses, Ian & Sharon, Jill & Scott, Stephen & Beth; and his 6 Grandchildren- Marlee Leedham(Richard), Kevin Marley (Lindsay), Megan Leedham (Mark), Colin Marley (Johanna), Daniel and Sophie Marley. Predeceased by his parent’s Leonard and Mae Marley and his brothers Ronald (Doreen) and Jack. Left to mourn are his in-laws, Donna Marley, Bill & Donna Gray, Keith & Wendy Gray and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Paul was born in Windsor, Ontario on July 24, 1935. At the age of 12 he moved to Wyoming where he met the love of his life, Lois. Paul graduated from the University of Toronto in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. In 1958 Paul & Lois purchased the pharmacy from Paul’s father Leonard and “Paul Marley Pharmacy” was born. For 46 years, Paul was known for providing exemplary service to the people of Wyoming; dispensing medication, providing counselling, and helping his customers any way he could.
Paul was passionate about Wyoming and was very active in his community; a member of Wyoming United Church for 74 years, a Sunday school leader, a Wyoming Lion for 60 years, a choir member in church and community choirs, a sponsor of youth baseball & hockey teams, as well as serving as a School Board trustee. In 2021, Paul was awarded Senior of the Year for his years of service to Plympton-Wyoming.
Many of Paul’s fondest memories were of his travels throughout the world with family and friends. He loved being with and talking to people. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing baseball, hockey, curling, and golf.
No one loved being a Grandfather more than Paul. He loved the summers when all the grandchildren would come to the cottage and he was like a big kid; swimming, boating, building sand castles, and singing around the campfire.
Paul would always tell people how much he loved Lois and how he knew how to pick them. They were an amazing team, supporting each other in all of their endeavours.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the wonderful caregivers that assisted Paul with so much care and compassion; especially Sarah Cook, Judy Deloge and Madison Vailliancourt.
Friends will be received at Needham-Jay Funeral Home Wyoming Chapel, 650 Broadway St., Wyoming on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 2 to 5 p.m. A funeral will be at Wyoming United Church 730 Second St. on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
The family requests that all those in attendance at the funeral home and church wear a face mask.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Wyoming United Church or the Wyoming Lions Club.
