John Clark Monday May 30th 2022

John Charles Clark BEng, PEng, MBA
January 15, 1936, to May 30, 2022
John was born in Saint John, NB to Myrtle and Gordon Clark. He graduated from Saint John High School with a highlight of winning the schoolboy curling champions and representing New Brunswick in 1953. John attended Acadia University in Nova Scotia, obtaining a certificate in Engineering, and winning the Monce Gold Medal for the highest marks. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering graduating in 1959 from McGill University.
He was hired by Imperial Oil Limited and moved to Sarnia, ON. He was lucky in life and love and met his wife Marjorie Waltham, a student nurse at that time. She was not interested in a boyfriend, but John was persistent, and they were married in 1962. John was devoted to his wife and some of his very last words included “Marjorie, you are perfect.” John retired for the first time from Imperial Oil in 1990 and had 2 more retirements! John loved Engineering and was continually figuring out how things work. He loved learning whether it was fine tuning his stock portfolio or hearing about his granddaughters’ academic research.
John was a lover of life and had a tremendously positive attitude. He was well known for going his own way at the bridge table, often to the frustration of Marjorie! He was a lifelong lover of baseball. He had the good fortune of moving to Toronto in 1977. Somehow, the drive to the family cottage always managed to start just as the baseball game was commencing! John was known to yell “those idiots, fire them all!” if the Blue Jays were not performing well. He was a member of the International Wine and Food Society and a proud member of the Retirees and Slackers. He organized many trips for himself and Marjorie as well as others often combining his passions of wine and travel. He and Marjorie visited more than 80 countries and had plans to visit many more.
John is lovingly missed by his wife, Marjorie. He will be greatly missed by his sister Margaret Craig. He will always be in the thoughts of his children Dr. Heather Clark (husband Dr. Joseph Tauskela), Allen Clark (wife Malini Clark), and Karen Nagy (widow Miroslav Nagy). He was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren and was able to see 4 of his granddaughters graduate from university; three chose engineering – Laura Tauskela (Civil Engineering, Queens), Lisa Tauskela (Civil Engineering, Queens), Rachel Clark (Mechanical Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) and Jessica Clark (Knowledge Integration, Waterloo). Sean Clark will be starting his Engineering Degree at Virginia Tech in the Fall of 2022 and Eric Nagy will be starting high school and Ryan Nagy will be starting grade 6. John is remembered fondly by his step-granddaughters Mandira and Sravya Ganti of Seattle, WA..
John is resting at McKersie Funeral Home in Milton. A celebration of life will be held by the family.
