Kathryn “Kaye”‘s Obituary
DURLING (Baxter), Kathryn “Kaye” B. ~ Age 95, of Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, in Mountain Lea Lode, Bridgetown. She was the fifth generation descendent of the Early’s in Margaretsville. Born on October 26, 1926, in Margaretsville, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Doris (Early) Baxter. Kathryn was a member of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church. She was a graduate of MacDonald High School at the young age of 16. Kathryn was a Registered Nurse, graduating from the Halifax Infirmary Nursing School, and had worked at Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville, Evening Supervisor at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton, and had done some private duty in Ontario. Kaye returned to Nova Scotia in 1950 and married Robert Durling of Lawrencetown who passed away in 1989. She was an avid bridge player and loved to dance. She was a Blue Jays fan. She loved knitting and needlepoint and won prizes at the Lawrencetown Exhibition. Kaye loved life and made many good friends over the years. She suffered a stroke in 1966 as a complication of surgery and was left partly paralyzed. She was always interested in helping young people and after her stroke, volunteered at the Revolving Door in Paradise, which she found very rewarding. A very special thank you to the staff at Crosskill Court and Mountain Lea Lodge. Surviving are daughters, Deborah (Brian) Chandler, Baddeck; Jane (Edmund) Slauenwhite, Clarence; son, David (Barbara), Lawrencetown; grandchildren, Kristine O’Neil, Gregory Durling, David Chandler, and Katie Brown; step grandchildren, Jeffery and Kristin Slauenwhite; great grandchildren, Brandon and Emily O’Neil, Allie, Taylor and Brooklyn Durling, Grace and Bailey Brown, Ari and Lexie Hammond; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Kaye was predeceased by brothers, Thomas, George “Joey”, and Karl “Billy” Baxter. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8th in Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St., Middleton toll free 1-855-825-3448. Reverend Eugene Foster officiating. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. No flowers by request, donations in her memory may be made to Fairview Cemetery, Heart & Stroke Foundation of NS, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
