Obituary of Laura Theresa Power
Laura Theresa Power (nee Fitzpatrick) passed away peacefully at Atlantic Baptist Home on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, age 94. Predeceased by her loving husband, Reg. Loving mother of Janet (John) Bysterveldt, Paula (Robert) Smith, Clarence (Patricia) Power, and Laurene (Kevin) Clow. Cherished Nanny to 13 grandchildren and great-Nanny to 16. Survived by sisters Thelma MacDonald, Bernadette Koughan and brother Leonard (Anne) Fitzpatrick, sisters-in-law, Myrtle and Viola. Predeceased by her parents John and Winnifred (McNally) Fitzpatrick of Ten Mile House; siblings Erna, Kay, Milton, Edward, Eleanor, and Josephine; and son John Harvey in infancy.
Laura was a nursing graduate of Falconwood Hospital in 1947. Laura and Reg were married in 1949 and settled on the farm in Mermaid. Laura worked alongside Reg in the barn and in the field all the while looking after their home and children. Laura enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, baking, jig-saw puzzles and playing cards. She volunteered for many years organizing the weekly card parties. Laura enjoyed visitors and they never left without lunch and a cup of tea. Laura was deeply devoted to faith and family. She was a life-time member of the CWL.
Resting at the Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford. Private visitation. Public funeral on Saturday, June 4 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Stratford. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made online to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
