Obituary of John Desmond Haight
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Desmond Haight on May 29th, 2022. John was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
John is predeceased by his parents, John and Christine, siblings Delmar, Mervin, Phyllis and Lois.
Beloved husband of Sophia, loving father of Christine (Patrick), John, Joani (Derek) and Emilia (David). Grandpa will always be in the hearts of his grandchildren Jess, Jalane, Nya, Jaleel and Christian. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
John was born in Haliburton, lived his childhood years in Welland and had fond memories of swimming in the Welland Canal. John worked at Stelco in the metallurgical lab and gained many friendships over the 34 years of service. Also, John was the proud owner of Grand Bowling Lanes in Grimsby with his wife, Sophia for 26 years. Sports and spending time with his family were two of his greatest passions. John loved bowling, reading the Spectator, talking about the psychology of sports and was a huge Leafs and Blue Jays fan. John also loved watching his grandchildren play hockey, soccer and baseball during his many years of retirement. John was known for his talkative nature and he looked for the positive in everything.
Family and friends will be received at Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King Street, Vineland on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 from 4 to 6pm for visitation, followed by a reception in the Fireside Room at the funeral home from 6 to 7pm.
