Peter Rostern Wednesday May 25th 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband and devoted father and granddad, Peter Rostern, on May 25th, 2022, Burlington, Ontario. Peter passed away peacefully with his wife Linda of 50 years by his side.
Born Sept 5th 1946 in Oldham Lancashire to Annie Hilton and Albert Rostern, he was a younger brother to Mary (John) and Albert (Patricia) and close friend with his nephew Martin (Debbie). He is survived by his 3 children Tania (Jason), Shelley (Stephen) and Mark and his grandchildren Jack, Tessa, Colby and Sarah. His family was everything to him and he was a wonderful uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was close to his brothers and sisters in-laws, cousins and many friends.
Peter grew up in England and he immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 and settled in Burlington where he attended McMaster University for engineering. At that time he was also the lead singer in a band that performed locally, where he met the love of his life, Linda.
Peter loved nature and had a 40 year career as a Professional Engineer in the environmental field. His job was rewarding and provided him with many opportunities to contribute to the health of the planet. With great ambitions, he also achieved his MBA through night school. He was highly respected in the industry and by his colleagues; and was a mentor to many engineers who worked with him. He travelled around the world extensively through his job and also with Linda to many interesting and beautiful places.
Peter was a member of Toastmasters and served as the President. He was an engaging conversationalist and story-teller, had a great sense of humour and had made many friends.
When Peter and Linda became grandparents, they bought a cottage in Sauble Beach where the family would spend time together over the summers. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking them out to many different places and sharing many experiences. Once retired, they spent their winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida enjoying the beautiful weather, sunsets, cycling tours and there they met many wonderful friends.
Peter had a love for music. In 2010, he made a trip home to England to play gigs with his former bandmates from his teen years. In retirement, Peter had learned to play the Ukulele, where they formed the “Buskers”. The “Buskers” and Peter sang and played at the Sound of Music Festival, a local pub and in nursing homes. Linda’s mother, Ann, loved them coming to sing for her, she enjoyed his music and adored her son in-law.. In Florida, they would often play their ukuleles and guitars with friends, Peter and Linda would host “Happy Hour” sing-a-longs.
Our abundant love for Peter will never fade and our memories of him will never be forgotten. His spirit will live on forever inside our hearts.
A public visitation will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line on Thursday, June 2nd 2022 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A public funeral service will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line on Friday, June 3rd at 1:00pm.
