Obituary of Richard “Ricky” Allen Hogan, River Ryan
It is with great sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the sudden passing of Richard (Ricky) Allen Hogan, 79, of River Ryan. Ricky passed away on May 27th, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Ricky was born in New Waterford to Mike and Veglia (Digobbie) Hogan on October 16th, 1942. In his younger years, he was an active member of the local sports community, playing on various baseball, hockey, and bowling teams. He was a long-time employee of the Devco Corporation, retiring in his early fifties after more than thirty years of service.
Dad thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years when he often travelled for sporting events. He loved spending time in his garden, his garage and at gatherings with family and friends – especially the annual ravioli making tradition. He took great pleasure in volunteering, and especially looked forward to helping at the Vince Ryan Memorial Hockey Tournament each year.
Dad was a kind and positive man who was always smiling, cheerful and enjoyed making others laugh. He had a wide circle of friends.
Ricky is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Dolena (Dolly) Hogan and his four daughters Carol (Timmy), Laura, Janet, and Susan. He is also survived by sister Irene, brothers James, Mario, Tommy, and Peter, as well as a large extended family, including many loved nieces and nephews. Ricky was a devoted grandfather to his three adored grandchildren Lauren, Bree-Lynne, and Riley, taking part in all their activities and accomplishments with such pride and joy.
Ricky was preceded by his parents, sister Irma, and brothers Michael and Ralph.
Charitable donations in Ricky’s memory can be made to the Vince Ryan Memorial Hockey Tournament.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, where visitation will be held on, Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 pm. Service will be held at 2:00 pm in the chapel with Father Jim Oliver presiding. Reception to follow at the Army, Navy, and Airforce Hall.
Online condolences can be expressed to the family by visiting www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff and volunteers of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care shown to Dad during his short stay.
We love and miss you Dad, rest easy now.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Richard Ricky
