Teresa Lai-Ying Yan (nee Chow)
August 25, 1936 – May 24, 2022
Teresa passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Scarborough Health Network – Birchmount Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Wayne (Wing Hong) Yan. She is survived by her children: Anne (John Olah); John (Linda); Peter (Leah Pressey); and Lucia. As a beloved grandmother, she will be fondly remembered by Michelle (Stephen), Bryan (Sarah), Sarah (Marko), Scott, Mylana, Rakeem, Dylan and Coltrane. She is also the cherished great-granny to Chloe, Evelyn, Sofia, Liliana and Ava.
Born in Guangzhou China in 1936, shortly after arriving in Canada with her husband and young family in August 1962, Teresa embarked on a 15-year career as an educational assistant supporting kindergarten students at Ogden Public School with the Toronto Board of Education. In 1977, she left education to enter the restaurant business with her husband Wayne until their retirement together.
Friends may visit at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East (Bayview and Langstaff) on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel of St. Joseph in the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Interment to be held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Donations, in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca), The Angel Foundation for Learning (www.angelfoundationforlearning.org), or the charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family as your expression of sympathy.
