Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Selina Radford on May 11th, 2022 at the age of 72 at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital after a long and brave battle with Parkinsons disease.
Leaving to mourn with love and gratitude are her daughters Tammy (Allan) Connors, Kelli Radford and Ryanne (Zane) McIsaac and grandson Josh Godwin. Also leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories brother John (Rosalind) Priddle and sister Diane (Dave) Murphy, sisters in law Carolanne and Diann Priddle, Sylvia and Alf Smith, Allan and Wanda Radford, Ross and Daphne Radford, Barb and Gerald Smith, mother-in-law Lurley Johnson as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Ena Priddle, brothers David and Max Priddle and her husband Charlie Johnson.
Jean was born and raised in Stephenville, Newfoundland. She grew up playing with her brothers and sister on Victoria Place and loved visiting the Musseau family across the street who became lifelong friends of the family. She was well liked and made friends easily being voted most popular in High school and captain of the cheerleaders.
Jean was an interior decorator for more than 40 years. She loved picking out color schemes and creating beautiful curtains for her clients. She had a creative flair in everything she did and always took pride in dressing in the latest fashions.
She raised her daughters in Stephenville and was a fierce advocate and caregiver for her daughter who was born with a rare bleeding disorder. She raised her to be strong and not fear her illness even when the prognosis was grim. She also acted as nurse, entertainer, and best friend as they spent many, many nights in the hospital together.
She spent 25 years with the love of her life Charlie Johnson before his passing in 2010. They loved life and welcomed family and friends to their home on Empire Avenue. They treated everyone with love and kindness and had a great appreciation for music and often spend late nights listening to Charlie’s vinyl record collection or songs on their jukebox.
As she got sicker, she never complained but remained happy and kind right until the end. Her daughter Kelli moved to Stephenville to be with her and cooked and cared for her and never left her side until her last breath. Kelli inherited Jeans love of cooking and she made elaborate meals for the two of them up until her passing.
Her daughter Tammy blessed her with her first grandchild and she loved spending time with Josh. Tammy inherited Jeans love of decorating and entrepreneurial spirit and had a home decor business of her own.
A special thank you to moms’ caregivers Irene, Gwen, Natalie, Joanne, Brenda and Caitlyn who were just like family to her.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.
Following her wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Russell’s Funeral Home on Friday, May 20th from 7-9 PM. A mask is required to attend this visitation. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 21st at 2PM from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Stephenville.
