Katherine ( Katie / Kay ) Sontag ( Luczka )
Peacefully with family at her side, on January 7, 2022, Katie passed away at the age of 96 years.
Katie, at the age of 16, married Rudolph ( Rudy ) , her husband of 59 years. When they married she became a Mother to Rudy’s
younger siblings, Adam, Anne, and Martin.
Katie and Rudy ran a small country grocery store and gas station, as well as market gardening growing cabbage, onions, potatoes, and strawberries,
while raising their 7 children. They are Richard (Judy), Fern (Frank), Bob (Corinne), Gloria (Garry), Jerry (Ellen), Val (Gerald), and Linda (Bram).
Their families grew to include 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Katie was very active with the Ladies Alter Society at St Michael’s church in Cooks Creek. She also volunteered at Another Time Around in Oakbank.
Rudy and Kay travelled throughout the US, as well as visiting Bermuda, Hawaii, and cruising through the Caribbean and to Alaska.
When Rudy couldn’t travel any more, Kay found a female travel partner and hit the road. She loved going on bus trips,
especially casino bus trips.
Kay’s greatest joy in life was having her family gather and spending time together. She would sit and smile watching everyone working and laughing together, creating huge feasts that would include up to four generations of family and friends.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Kin Place PCH for enriching Mom’s life and providing excellent care and support in her golden years.
We also extend a special thank you to Holly at Seasons Funeral Chapel for her patience and guidance through this difficult time.
A private family funeral was held and a Celebration of Life is planned at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay’s memory to St Michael’s Building Fund, Kin Place PCH, or a charity of your choice.

Death notice for the town of: Oakbank, Province: Manitoba
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. She was a great friend to my Nanny. My nanny talked all about the alter society days and how they worked together to organize, clean and cook for the parish priest. I believe they probably started our CWL. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Kim and Dave Verrier.
