MORRIS, Mary Lou
Howie Centre
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Patricia (Stewart) Morris, on January 5, 2022, at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Born in St. Peter’s on September 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Annie (MacKenzie) Stewart. Mary Lou graduated from the Glace Bay School of Nursing in 1949 and took up residence in Dominion after her marriage in 1950. A devoted member of Chalmers United Church, she sang for many years in the church choir and also with the Breton Belles.
Mary Lou’s loving and caring nature shone through in the raising of her six children. She loved being surrounded by family and friends and took special joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had the ability to put anyone at ease with her welcoming personality and wonderful sense of humour.
Her favourite place was the family bungalow on the Mira. She loved swimming in the river (even into her 90s) and watching for deer and eagles. And she loved visitors! Relatives, friends, and anyone else who stopped by — everyone was greeted with a hug and treated as family. Most of all, she treasured the precious time she got to spend with her sisters and their families in the summer.
Mary Lou will be deeply missed by her sons Alan, David (Kathryn), Bill (Stephanie), and Glen (Judy); daughter Patricia (Mark) MacDonald; sister Beverly MacKillop; sisters-in-law Marjorie Morris and Helen Stewart; brother-in-law Frank MacKenzie; grandchildren Amy Morris, Marly (Mike) Mawson, Stewart (Colleen) Morris, Ian (Xana) Morris, Jennifer (Kennedy) King, Eleonore (Fergal) Murphy, MacKenzie (Michelle) Morris; great-grandchildren Sophia Louise, Savannah, Rita, Alistair, Emily, Nora, Haylee, and Landon; many special nieces and nephews; and close friends Marilyn, Jesse, and Shirley, her best friend of 75 years.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Douglas, son Murdock, sisters Donna Thurgood and Isabel MacKenzie, brother Ken Stewart, and sister-in-law Dorothy Morris.
Special thanks to the staff on 3 East for caring for our dear mother in the final weeks of her life.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the United Protestant Church of Sydney River or your local SPCA.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Lou Morris 2022..
