The Right Reverend Thomas Alexander Corston, May 29th, 1949 – January 7th, 2022. It is with regret that we announce the passing of Bishop Thomas Alexander Corston, on Friday, January 7th, 2022, surrounded by his family at Maison McCulloch Hospice, following a struggle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sheppard, his sons Andrew (Michelle) and Stephen (Emilie), and his mother, Frances Jardine. Tom was the eldest child of Henry Corston and his wife Frances, and is survived by sisters Deborah (Bruce), Margaret (Allan), and Erin (Paul) and brother-in-law James (Sharon) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bishop Tom served a number of years as a priest in the Anglican Church of Canada, the lengthiest appointment being Rector of downtown Sudbury’s Church of the Epiphany. He was elected the ninth Bishop of Moosonee Diocese in 2010, overseeing the vast lands of the James Bay lowlands and across the height of land of northern Ontario and Quebec. In 2011 Wycliffe College, Toronto, awarded him an honourary Doctor of Divinity degree and in 2013 Thorneloe University, Sudbury, awarded him an honourary doctorate, STD. In 2008, the Bishop was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for his service as Chaplain to the Ontario Command of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Bishop Corston will be interred in the Chapleau Municipal Cemetery, Chapleau. In agreement with his wishes, friends are asked to make memorial donations to the Diocese of Moosonee or to the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund of the Anglican Church of Canada. Memorial Service in the Church of the Epiphany, 85 Larch Street, Sudbury, on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 at 11am. Friends may gather at the church after 10:30am Tuesday, February 1st.
