On Monday May 9, 2022, Mrs. Reta Florence Hay of Oliver passed away peacefully after a brief illness at McKinney Place Extended Care at the age of 92 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Dorothy Monts; first husband, Russ Ellis; second husband, Gerald Hay; brothers Bill, Jack, Bob and Harley and sister-in-law Beatrice.
Reta will be fondly remembered by her loving nieces and nephews on both sides as well as many cherished friends; especially Barbara Reeves.
In her younger days she worked at the Langley Hospital. Later after her move to the Okanagan, Reta worked for many years at the South Okanagan General Hospital.
After the death of her first husband Russ, she re-connected with Gerry after the loss of his first wife Lois.
They went on to spend 21 wonderful years together.
Reta enjoyed writing and receiving letters, doing puzzles, bowling and travelling. Gerry and Reta spent some of their winters in Mesa, Arizona. She was a fabulous cook, loved to prepare dinner for family and friends and planning social events. Her late husband Gerry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Osoyoos, BC
Reta’s family would like to personally thank Dr. Calder for his many years as Reta’s primary physician, as well as all the staff at McKinney Place who treated her with loving care and respect.
A service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday June 5, 2022 at the Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Chapel, 5855 Hemlock Street, Oliver, BC. Interment will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery followed by a reception at the Osoyoos Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 8310 – 78th Avenue, Osoyoos, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA, the Royal Canadian Legion Osoyoos Branch or the BC Children’s Hospital in her name.
