Donna Ethel Henley 1950 2022

Obituary of Donna Ethel Henley
HENLEY, Donna Ethel (nee Glawson) Sheet Harbour, 71 – While those of us who loved her are saddened that she has gone – we are comforted she is now, happily, reunited with her one true love – her husband Gary.
Donna died peacefully, surrounded by love on May 10, 2022 at Harbourview Lodge, which was her home for the past 2 ½ years. She was an exceptional mother and grandmother whom we cherished and loved. Donna has lived with Alzheimer’s and while memories slowly left her mind – we still always felt her love.
Gary and Donna were an extraordinary couple – loved immensely by their family. They had two children, Nicole (Glenn Coolen) and Trent (Sam Fredericks) and Donna was ‘Nanny’ to their three granddaughters – Aileigh, Elaynah and Lily – all of whom she adored. Donna was the most loving, kind and funny person and so welcoming to any guests who came to their door. While Gary was the local jack-of-all-trades, Donna was the hostess of their home – always prepared with a delicious treat to be served. She was an exceptional cook and served delicious meals… especially when she made goulash and blueberry pie for her beloved granddaughters.
She was creative and talented in so many ways, had exceptional taste and sewed beautiful clothes. Together she and Gary loved creating things from wood – together they would make the plans, he would build, and she would do the finishing touches. They had a cabin cruiser Gary built 40 years ago and they had years of enjoyment with their children, grandchildren, family and friends taking runs out the harbour or cooking suppers of fish and new potatoes while moored at Deep Cove.
Donna had a wonderful sense of humour and she enjoyed laughing so much at the antics of others. She was fun – and she was funny. Over the years she developed a green thumb and enjoyed caring for her lawn and gardens – receiving much pleasure from her flowers and blooming bushes.
Donna worked at Scotiabank, NSLC and Canada Post – and thrived at her most important job being the best wife, mother and grandmother.
Donna was the daughter of the late Carl and Lillian (Jackson) Glawson and was a sister to her late brother, Calvin (Valerie) Glawson. She was predeceased by her husband, Gary, in December. She is survived by all who she adored and who adored her, members of the Glawson and Henley families – way too many to name – neighbours and friends and is remembered for her beautiful and warm smile.
Nicky and Trent extend a heartfelt word of appreciation to the staff and residents of Harbourview Lodge and the Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital. The people who live and work at Harbourview are truly exceptional, and have provided the most wonderful and cherished memories. The family is grateful for the outstanding care Donna received, especially during a pandemic.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DS Crowell and Son Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour. Visitation for both Donna and Gary will be held Friday June 17 from 7-9p.m. in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, masks are recommended. A joint celebration of life will be held for Donna and Gary at St. Peter’s Church in Sheet Harbour on Saturday June 18 at 2 pm with Archbishop Martin Currie officiating. A reception will follow at the Lions Centre.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer Society. Online condolences may be directed to www.crowellsfuneralhome.ca
