Obituary
Shirley Ann Brooks was born August 22, 1948 and passed away in her home on April 29, 2022, at the age of 73.
She is survived by her son Dan Brooks and her grandchildren; Tyland and Veronica Brooks, her brothers; Robert and Ken Revak, sisters; Joan Houghton, and Joyce Simpson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents; Tresa May and Joseph John Revak, her brother Henry Revak and her nephew Nick Revak.
Growing up in Lethbridge, AB, Shirley enjoyed babysitting, playing baseball in school, water skiing and camping. She graduated high school at LCI and went on to be married and had her son Dan. Along with being the best Mom a child could ask for, Shirley worked outside the home and put herself through university, obtaining her degree in Education. She landed a teaching position with District 51. Teaching with compassion and patience, she loved every child as if they were her own.
Shirley’s life changed after a motor vehicle accident. For as long as she could, she continued to teach, as she had such a love and respect for her students, but eventually it became too much. After two back surgeries she was forced onto disability and then retirement.
Shirley was divorced in 2012 and continued to work hard to make a wonderful home for her family. She devoted herself to loving, caring for, and supporting all. Her home was a sanctuary to visit, for which her family and friends cherished. Her passion for bringing loved ones together and hosting many gatherings will be missed. A gathering at Shirley’s guaranteed you leave with a full belly, filled heart and everlasting memories. She would tell us; “Never take a day for granted. Smile and cherish the little things. Always hug the ones you love”.
Nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren. Shirley taught them to swim, helped them with schoolwork, loved to take them camping and play games. Her home was their comfort space. She appreciated the simple things in life such as warm weather and going for walks, watching a movie, working in and around her home and garden, she loved live theatre, music and dancing. Shirley could always be found dressed up and ready for good conversation.
She was the ultimate example of selflessness. Supporting her loved ones in every way she could. Her patience and playfulness, romantic, yet realistic personality will live on through her family and friends. She was a respected and classy lady, and was a great example of how to love fiercely. In Shirley’s words; “We love each other yet definitely don’t always have to agree”.
Today, Shirley is at peace and pain free. Her physical limitations are gone and there was a celebration as she has reunited with her family and friends who were gone before her. Her legacy will live on by all who has the privilege of knowing her.
Shirley was a humble woman who never cared for the spotlight and therefore requested no service be held at this time.
