Alta Melba Wright 19382022

Alta Melba Wright
1938-2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our
beloved Mother Alta Melba Wright (Crain) on April 15, 2022 at the age
of 83. She was born on the farm in Holmesville, N.B. on September 7,
1938 to the late William Crain and Carrie Demerchant. She was the 4th
oldest in a family of sixteen children. She was very proud to be part
of this big beautiful family.
Alta was affectionately known by her siblings as
“Mig”. She was a kind thoughtful woman who treated
everyone with kindness and respect. She loved the farm she grew up on
and all of her siblings.
She left home at 17 to join the Royal Canadian Air Force for
an adventure of a life time. While in the RCAF she met her husband
Russell Wright. They were married in 1959 in St Jerome, Quebec. She
travelled the world with her husband and children only to settle back
in her hometown in 1977.
Russ and Alta were married for 63 years. During this time
they had five children and eleven grandchildren, all of whom she loved
very much and was very proud of.
Alta was a wonderful mother to her five children and a loving
grandmother. She believed hugs made children grow and gave them out
generously to her family.
Alta enjoyed being a full time, stay at home mom. She spent
much of her time cooking, baking, pickling, crafting, and gardening.
In her spare time she loved bird watching, reading the newspaper,
keeping up on current events and word searches. Family meant
everything to Alta, so she enjoyed it when family came to visit and
friends stopped by for cup of tea and something good to eat. She
always had the best stories to share. Her recall of dates and details
was truly phenomenal. She was often called upon by many for a history
lesson of the area and the people.
She enjoyed her morning coffee on the deck while watching and
listening to the birds. She liked the warmth of the sun and the fresh
country air. She was an avid gardener and loved being
outside.
Mom taught us that family was important and that kindness
went a long way. “You catch more flies with honey than you do
vinegar ” she would say. Alta had a million sayings some of
which were her own and others she had adopted over the years. She was
very wise.
Alta and Russ moved to Fredericton in 2012, they wanted to be
closer to their youngest daughter Wendi and her twin girls Hazel and
Ila. The twins were very special to Alta. She took great
pride and joy in helping to raise them. She loved watching them grow
up and supported them in all their
activities.
She was so proud of her children and grandchildren success
and always loved to hear about their lives. She will be missed now and
forever by those who knew and loved her. She lives on in her children
and grandchildren. We will always love you Mom.
Alta leaves behind her husband, Russell W. Wright; children,
Terence R. Wright (Carol-Ann), Tania E. Bourret (Marc), Bryce R.
Wright (Joni), Kim A. Wright and Wendi A. Wright; grandchildren, Eric
Bourret, Brendan Wright, Meaghan Wright, Amie Wright, Ben Wright,
Patrick Bourret, Tara Wright, Kaylee Wright, William Bourret, Hazel
Wright and Ila Wright.
Alta is survived by three sisters and five brothers including
Connie Flemming, Lauraine Hoyt, Andria Lint, Charles, Clifford,
Hugh-John, Wavel, David and dozens of nieces and
nephews.
Alta was predeceased by six of her bothers, Duncan, Hilton,
Gaylon, Donnie, Earl and Larry and her eldest sister Shirley
Clowater.
In respecting Alta’s wishes no funeral service will
be held. Her family will have a private Celebration of Life later this
year. Her ashes will be buried in the Fredericton Rural
Cemetery.
