Edouard Laroche Saturday April 30th 2022

Edouard (Ed) Laroche
August 13, 1925 – April 30, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, father-in-law, Pépère, Grand-Pépère, brother and friend, Ed Laroche at age 96, surrounded by his loved ones.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his children, Alice (Lomer-Deceased), Maurice (Renée), Edmée (René), Carmelle (Larry), Louise (Robert), Denise (Mike), Gerri, Rick (Karen), Janet (Craig), Yvette (Blair), Susie, Don, and Doe. He was a loving Pépère to multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his extended family and friends. He is also survived by his brothers, Arthur (Céline) and Lucien (Lucille-Deceased), sisters-in-law Marguerite (Peter) and Jeanine, and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by first wife (Florence), then second wife (Terry), his parents Philias and Florence, siblings Edmond, Louis, Cécile, Thérèse, Berthe, Antoine and Auguste, and son Bob.
Ed grew up in St. Pierre on the farm. One of his fondest childhood memories was riding to school in a cutter driven by a horse with his siblings Edmond, Louis and Cécile. He would park the horse and cutter in the parish barn for the day while they were at school. He married his first wife, Florence in 1946 and they had five children together. They were married for 29 happy years.
Ed worked as an electrician for four years. The economy being slow, he then started working at Patterson Elevators as a helper, eventually becoming the managing grain buyer. Ed was known as an honest, fair grain buyer whom customers really trusted. Ed married Terry in 1976 and embraced her eight children as his own. They were married for 36 wonderful years.
Ed retired after 31 years at the age of 56. He then started his third career as a handyman, a Jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or repair. He was always willing to help anyone, when asked. He particularly enjoyed helping out family at the farm in Fillmore, driving the combine to help with the harvest for several years.
One of Ed’s passions was curling as a skip at the Dufrost Curling Club. He liked to watch curling, the Jets and the Bombers on TV, as well as animal shows on Discovery Channel because of his passion for wildlife. Ed was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus church board and an avid bingo caller who wore his KC ring proudly.
Dad was always welcoming with his bottomless pot of coffee, hosting friends and family alike at the South Park condo. Dad and Mom loved living there, with Smitty’s and the church across the street being a big bonus. They enjoyed many years of travelling together. Dad had a gifted memory, and as a result was a great storyteller. His stories of treasured family memories will be missed. Whenever you spent some time with him, he would always leave you with a mischievous grin, a set of sparkling blue eyes, and words of love and gratitude.
His last five years were spent at Actionmarguerite St. Vital (Foyer Valade). The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Princess, brother Jacques and all the staff who provided him with exceptional and compassionate care.
In keeping with Ed’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, May 10th at 2:00 pm at Mary, Mother of the Church, located at 85 Kirkbridge Drive.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Ed may be made to Actionmarguerite St. Vital, 450 River Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 5M4.
