Leona Wareham
83, New Waterford
It is with heartfelt sadness, we the family, announce the passing of our cherished mother, Leona Elizabeth Wareham (Blanchard) as she gained her angel wings on April 26, 2022, with her family by her side. Born in New Waterford on December 21, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John Edward Blanchard, Nfld., and Mary Trainor, Glace Bay, NS.
As a living Saint on earth, Leona was disguised as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, Master Hairdresser of 63 years, and confidant. She loved to dance, swim, bake bread and spend time with her family. She treasured and idolized her children and grandchildren and they adored her. She loved to travel with them and enjoy all the special moments in life. Her remarkable strength and determination were evident during her time of sickness and her intestinal fortitude was an inspiration to so many who admired her.
Leona is survived by her loving sons Joe (Caroline) Wareham, Ontario, Rob (Mei) Wareham, Ontario, and daughter Corrina (Michael) Kelly, New Waterford; her grandchildren Michaela, Nicholas & Courtney Kelly, Lucas Wareham, William & Andrew Wareham; her sister Bernadette Shelton (Blanchard), California and her brother Pius (Helen) Blanchard, Halifax NS., sister-in-law Gloria Hurley, Glace Bay, brother-in-law Ernie Wareham, Boston, many nieces and nephews. Leona was predeceased by the love of her life, William Wareham (Bill) after 35 loving years of marriage.
Besides her parents, Leona was predeceased by her brothers Vincent & Vernon Blanchard; sisters Corrina and Helen Blanchard, and Theresa MacDonald (Blanchard), sister-in-law Sheila Penney, Glace Bay.
A special thank you to the Home Care services and staff of New Waterford, VON Staff, Cape Breton Regional Hospital doctors & staff and her amazing caregivers Shirley Hogan, Sandra Dupe, and niece Kim Gouthro.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 6, 2022, from 11am-1pm. A chapel service will take place at 1pm with Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating, followed by a reception at the K.O.C. on Plummer Avenue.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
