We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our father Bill McKitterick on April 29, 2022 at the age of 93. We are eternally grateful for the time we had been given with Dad.
Dad was born in Toronto. We are his proud and loving children Jack, Cathy (Delbert), Terry (Shari). Dad also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Brett, Sarah and Tyler. He was predeceased by his siblings Bob, Jim, George, Joan and Thora as well as his parents Donald and Helen.
Dad had a full and interesting life which produced many anecdotes which he took great pleasure telling many times over. Each time he would tell them like they had never been told before which somehow made them new again.
Dad had a long list of interests. Perhaps his greatest love was birdwatching. We’ll never forget the stories of “rare bird alerts” being received followed by drive to all lengths to find some elusive bird. It was serious business as proven by binders full of pages documenting sightings of bids from the Middle East to the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Dad was a real sportsman. He curled for many years until he decided that a fall on the ice might be a little too painful and damaging. So the broom was hung up, but that was fine as there was always something else to do. Golf was maybe his favourite sport. He treasures the times he spent with his buddies at the Ridgetown Golf Club. Incredibly he swung clubs until he was 85!
We will all take something of Dad into the rest of our lives, but it was his eternal optimism that marks who he was. He could find what was wonderful in almost everything and often turn the most challenging situations into something less daunting. We hope that we can all take that gift and use it to enjoy the precious time we have left in this life.
A very special thanks to the staff at Park Street Place where he was received with loving care and friendship.
At Dad’s request, cremation has taken place. His family will remember him privately. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Thamesville. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
