Obituary of Helen Louise Dombowsky
January 5, 2022, Helen Louise Dombowsky passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Helen was born in Moose Jaw, SK on February 17, 1932, to parents Anna and Karl Jacobi, and raised on the farm near Moosomin, SK. She was predeceased by her daughter Brenda; husband Alphonse; daughter-in-law Debbie; son-in-law Spence; siblings, Marie, Edward, Irma, Edna, Laura, and Carl. Helen leaves to mourn her death, children Bill (Carla) Dombowsky, Denny (Stacy) Dombowsky, Ann (Rod) Ross, and Lynn (Doug) Gorniak; grandchildren, Shauna (Arkin), Scott (Hong), Buck, Nicole, Michelle (Iain), Collin, Ryan (Loreli), Katherine, Chad, Angela (Ray), and Chris (Christina); as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
Helen was a hardworking, loving, mother of five, and worked for the Federal Government for most of her career. Throughout her retirement, she started her mornings by walking with her friends and having coffee at Victoria Square Mall. She also loved playing cards, going to the Casino, and looked forward to Hawgarama every summer to dance and listen to the music. Helen’s sense of humour and love for pranks and teasing made her so much fun to be around. She loved being known as the “fun” Aunt, Grandma, and Great Grandma and was always planning little surprises to make things entertaining. Helen’s true pride and joy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved playing cards with her family, hosting poker games, making jalapeno poppers, and watching the grandkid’s activities. During the summers she enjoyed being at the lake, especially being on the pontoon boat feeding the seagulls. Helen was truly happiest with her family around especially if they brought her a turtle pecan blizzard! If you were a friend to her children, she immediately welcomed you as part of her family. Helen left a lasting impression on all those who were lucky enough to know her and left behind so many wonderful memories for her family and friends to cherish.
We would like to thank the staff at Sunset care home for providing our mother/grandmother with such good care. You quickly became part of her family, and she was very appreciative of the love and care you gave her. For that, her family is forever grateful.
The family will have a celebration of life in the Spring of 2022.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Helen
Louise
