Fanny (Frances) Melnitzer
(née Weissglas)
Holocaust Survivor
Peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2022, her ninety-nineth birthday and Yom Hashoah. Beloved wife of the late Sasha Melnitzer and mother of Julius (Janet), Rudy (Denise) and her late daughter Roslyn. Devoted grandmother to Melissa, Bodhi, Dustin, Karys and Sierra, and great-grandmother to Tashy and Jamea.
Fanny survived the Holocaust along with her late sister Nusia. Despite the loss of most of her family, including her parents Herman and Rosa and brother Heshie, she came to Canada with Sasha to start a new life with their young children. They were deeply involved in the Jewish community in Montreal, including Fanny’s work as president of the Women’s Auxiliary at Maimonides Geriatric Centre.
Deepest gratitude to Dr. Marcus Law, Nurse Jenny and all the loving staff at Kensington Gardens who did everything possible to make Fanny’s last years comfortable. Graveside service on Sunday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chevra Shaas Congregation Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva from Monday to Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 101 St. Clair Ave. W., ground floor party room. Donations in her memory may be made to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, (514) 345-2605.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Fanny Frances Melnitzer 2022..
