Mark Corwin “HyTwr High Tower Wiebe Monday October 5th 2020

MARK CORWIN WIEBE
“HyTwr” (High Tower)
January 1, 1969 – October 5, 2020
Mark is greatly missed. He was a giant of a man in all respects and touched the lives of people all over the world. Mark started his life with a grand entry as he was the 1969 New Year’s Baby in Neepawa, Manitoba. He was the baby of the family, but grew to be the biggest/tallest. (6’6”) At least in the immediate family. He had cousins that were still taller.
Mark leaves behind his parents, George and Nellie, brothers Brent and Daryl, and sister Laura, along with their families, as well as extended family and numerous friends from all over the world.
Mark LIVED his life. He was a Cruise Director, working on cruise ships and traveled the world. He hiked, biked and motorcycled all over the place. He even had a specially made collapsible bike that he took with him on the cruise ship so he could explore the different ports where they landed. Mark had a gigantic heart and always had/made time to help everyone he could. This could entail anything from listening to you, babysitting your kid, fixing your car, and even moving you. Mark had many groups of friends. Family, cousins, friends and friends who were like family. Everyone he met became his friend. He made you feel like you were the only one in the room. When he was with you, he was WITH you.
He was part of a ballroom dancing community and a stand-up comedy group. He participated at Toastmasters, worked with street kids through Youth for Christ, fixed chimneys and had many friends through his jobs in carpentry and construction. An interesting fact was that while I knew he was playing in the world of comedy, recently I found out he was thinking of trying to do it professionally. He even did a set at Yuk Yuk’s. (I think he would have knocked that right out of the park and standing head and shoulders above all his competition…Oh wait…He would have started out that way. Lol)
“HyTwr” (High Tower) was also part of was part of several unions, working for BFI and EllisDon, as well as doing odd jobs like fixing chimneys and setting up shows. It seemed he could always find some kind of work to do. He seemed to be able to do anything: carpentry, mechanical and he excelled socially. If he didn’t know how, he found solutions. One of the main expressions I heard describing him at work was how gentlemanly he was. He never got involved in the gossip etc. Everyone loved him, and how he was there to help everyone no matter what their trade or experience.
Mark died dong one of the many things he loved, riding his Goldwing. While it was a freak accident, we know that Mark is now in a better place, smiling down on us. May he continue to inspire us as we carry on. Mark is greatly loved and missed by many.
Due to Covid Restrictions, Mark has yet to be laid to rest, now due to his mother (Nellie Wiebe’s) sudden death, we are combining her funeral and his memorial at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at McIvor Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Avenue, Winnipeg, with viewing at 10:00 a.m. A reception and open mike will follow the service. Interment at Brookside Cemetery
